the very first thing that happens when you pick up your camera to take a shot is this:

At 4 days old little miss O was so smiley. She smiled and smiled and absolutely loved being a little model. One of the easiest newborn sessions to date…she was so good I could say it was like not even working at all.

This blog post is going to be a little image heavy, I was trying to narrow down the images I wanted to share to maybe 3 or 4 but decided that its my blog so I can show as many as I want anyway! right? lol

The gorgeous hat above and the little purple knit below was made by my awesome friend Ewa. Almost all of the knitted items I use are made by her. They are simple and delicate and just the perfect addition to newborn images without taking over the image and making it all about the “prop”

This is not posed….she was so content and comfortable that she just kept stretching out her arms like this. She did it a lot during our session.

When I took this shot I almost did the happy dance right there in front of them…yeah….thats all I can say about this image, it just makes me really happy. Big sister C was once again amazing for me. You can see her 6 month session here. She was probably the most expressive 6 month old I have ever met.

W family, thank you for having me into your home, it was an absolute pleasure to spend time with your lovely family again. Seriously I think you should consider having many many more babies

expressive | calgary baby photographer

This little guy came in for his 1 year session just a couple days after his first birthday. He was SO much fun, seriously…the expressions are priceless! That is one of the best things about this age. The first time I met him was a year ago for his newborn session which you can check out here. It is so amazing to get to watch these little ones grow. Love that I get to do that. LOVE IT!

baby #3 on the way | calgary maternity photographer

I don’t know how I get so lucky. I have, not only beautiful clients but they are all really great people too. This family is no exception. I had a wonderful time photographing them and am eagerly awaiting the call any day now. Baby #3 was due last week and is taking his/her time making a grand entrance.

Thought I would share a few of my favorites from the maternity session. Anyone who knows me know that I just LOVE mommy and daughter images and was so thrilled when A was only too happy to pose with mommy. I adore these so much I could not pick just 1 to share so I was able to narrow it down to 4.

Of course we needed a belly comparison shot with big brother “Z”

While setting up for the silhouette images “A” came over and started wrapping herself up in one of the wraps so she matched mommy. Yeah, cute x’s 1000 so of course we needed to take some more of them together….

K, I wish you a fast and uneventful delivery and I can’t wait to meet the newest addition to your lovely family

sweet summer evening | calgary photographer

This session took place on one of the few nice summer evenings we have had here in Calgary. We had planned this session for awhile and right up until the day of the session we were worried it would rain, the forecast called for rain….and well, we have had more rainy days than summer days this summer so it just seemed inevitable. Fortunately the sun shone, little miss A was is great spirits and we had a fantastic session. Although every session I have had with her has been wonderful! You can see one of those sessions here, and another here.

I know some people might be wondering if I am now offering outdoor sessions. Well, yes and no. I have had a lot of previous clients who have asked me for outdoor sessions this summer so after lots of consideration I have decided that I will offer outdoor sessions to previous clients and only as my schedule allows. So limited outdoor sessions will be added to my calendar for the remainder of the summer and early fall. These sessions will require some time before the session takes place to talk about style, clothing, location and such.

On another note if you are a previous client feel free to shoot me an email : bowesphotography@shaw.ca for information on my previous client pricing promo which runs from Jan 1, 2011 until April 30, 2011 and will include maternity, baby, child & family sessions (newborns exempt).

ALSO: keep watching my website. In the very near future I will be launching a new section called “featured” it will hold a couple of galleries that you will be able to access and view all the the images from the sessions that are featured. This session and the previously posted maternity session which took place outdoors will be the first 2 featured galleries.

He was so sweet, and so accommodating! I LOVE when I get to photograph them this young, it seems unlikely but its so true that only a matter of days can make a huge difference in how smoothly a newborn session can go.

Baby boy L, you and your big sister stole a little piece of my heart at our session. Thank you both (and mommy and daddy too) for being the definition of perfect models

Big sister M gave me so many really great smiles but something about this shot just speaks to me. I love how soulful and serious she looks. Seems a whole lot older than her 2.5 years that is for sure.

Thanks for a really great session! It was wonderful to see you all again and I am honored you chose me to photograph your newest addition

stunning mama to be | calgary maternity photographer

Meet Leanne, she is 34 weeks pregnant with her first child. Leanne came out to Banff back in June to model for a maternity class I was teaching so when she wanted more images of her belly a little bigger than it was in June I immediately thought that an outside session would be fun for both of us. Her, since she already had a collection of studio style portraits and me, because I don’t often shoot outside.

I cannot wait to meet this baby, she is sure to be just as stunning as her mama!

The sun flare went a little crazy here but I LOVE the expression on her face.

She wins it..hands down! Best pout that is. After a session in her home last week, I was packing up all my gear and she came running into the room saying “I want more pictures, I want more pictures!” her mother explained that picture time was over and we were all done taking pictures. She crossed her arms and marched out of the room. As I was coming around the corner to bring my gear to the front door I saw this sweet child sitting on the stairs seriously ticked off. I grabbed my camera, swapped lenses and started shooting as fast as I could before she stopped what she was doing. The following series was the result of that spontaneous “mini” session! lol

No worries though, as soon as she realized we were taking more pictures she cheered right up and posed for several more frames filled with lots of smiles
I adore her and could not resist doing a super quick blog post to share.

More babies and bellies will be hitting the blog this coming week, I am determined to get caught up by the end of August.

There is nothing as pure and heartwarming as the love and adoration that reflects on a new moms (and dad’s) face when they hold their baby daughter. Meet sweet little Ella. She was a wonderful little model for me. Babies like her make me want another newborn.

Thank you for a wonderful session. It was an absolute pleasure to work with your beautiful family.

Please note: I am booked up solid for regular session up to December, with only 1 date left in December. I do have dates on reserve to accommodate my already booked newborns in the event they arrive early or late. helping a calgary family out

I just learned this evening that a family here in Calgary lost everything they own in a fire that completely destroyed their home. They only just moved into the home and had not gotten insurance set up as of yet. What makes this even more heartbreaking is they are expecting their first child, a baby boy, in a months time and now have to start all over acquiring the necessities for their baby. A facebook page has been set up to help the family out with donations of baby items and other necessities.

You can find the facebook page here if you would like more information on the story and also find out how you can help in even a small way. I have seen the generosity of Calgarians in the past, and I feel confident that we as a community can pull together and help this family when they need it most.

she’s 9 months already | calgary baby photographer

I could hardly believe when sweet little B’s mom contacted me to set up her 9 month session. This year is just flying past and it just seems like only weeks ago she was in for her newborn session and like it was only yesterday she was into the studio for her 4 month session. This family is my most frequent family. I have so loved watching both B and her big brother M grow up.

I LOVE this age. Babies are so expressive and full of personality at this age and B is no exception…..I could not help but laugh when she would stick her tongue out at me. Its her “thing” to do right now according to mom….and its all mom’s fault too. She admits to probably being the one to teach it to her! lol

her expression here makes me laugh too…..she looks so mischievous!

Her big brother used to suck his lip in the exact same way when he was close to this age!

Just love her to bits and can’t wait to see her again for our next session in just a couple months.

I just wanted to let everyone who is considering booking a session know that I am almost completely booked out for the remainder of the year with only a couple sessions left so if you are thinking on booking a session get in touch ASAP to avoid disappointment.
