F.A.Q.

Details & F.A.Q.

What makes Bowes Photography different?
I strive to capture you and your children as you are, right now, at this point in time. I won’t pose your baby into awkward or unnatural positions. I use simple backdrops and very minimal props, as I prefer you, and your relationships with each other, to be the main focus in my work.
I have 17 years professional experience, 13 of which have been concentrated on specializing in newborns, children and their families. Which means I focus all my time and energy building experience that helps to guarantee a variety of beautifully captured images that celebrates your child as they are now, the bond you share together, and as a family.
The images we create together will be timeless pieces of art, that you will enjoy for many years to come, and then someday, perhaps even pass down to your children.
I take a limited number of sessions per month in order to ensure each and every client gets my very best. By not overbooking myself I am able to rearrange my schedule to suit you and your Child’s needs as they change.

How far in advance should I book?
As soon as possible to avoid disappointment. I usually book 2-3 months in advance. If you have a newborn less than 10 days old do contact me right away and I will do my best to fit you in, or at the very least provide a referral to another wonderful photographer in the area.
Please note: I do start accepting bookings for the fall months in June. September- December are my busiest months and tend to book up very quickly. If you are hoping to get a fall session in be sure to get in touch as soon as possible to be added to the wait list.

When should I have my baby photographed?
For a newborn session, the earlier the better! Newborns should be less than 2 weeks. My favorite time frame is 3-9 days old but, I do photograph older newborns quite often. If your baby is past the 2-week newborn stage and you would like to see some samples of how a older newborn session can look please contact me for further information. Really though, a session for your baby at any stage will yield beautiful results. So, don’t worry if you feel that you may have missed the newborn stage. There are many benefits to having your baby photographed a little bit older as well, and I have years of experience working with baby’s of all different ages. You can also look through the “baby” gallery in the portfolio section of the website to see some many examples of baby sessions that took place in the first year, at varying ages.

When is the best time to have a maternity session?
Typically I suggest between 28 and 35 weeks.

Where do sessions take place?
I offer on location sessions for newborns and families. I have three options for on location sessions. 1) In home lifestyle session. 2) In home studio style session. 3) On location outdoor.

How long do sessions take, and how many images will I get?
Full maternity, baby, and family sessions typically take anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. A newborn session can take anywhere from one and a half hours to three hours, with the average session taking about two hours. I never rush through a newborn session, I like to allow for plenty of cuddle and feeding time as needed. All full sessions are guaranteed a MINIMUM of 30 images in the online gallery.

Do you sell digital files? Are they included in the session fee?
Yes, I do sell the digital files. They are available a la carte as well as within two collections.
Files are not included in any of the sessions fees.

Do you sell the files without the reference prints/product?
No. I believe that when someone hires me, they are not only choosing me because my style speaks to them, but also for the experience of hiring a true professional photographer. As a artist its very important to me to have control over the quality of the products my clients get from their images. I want to ensure your images are printed properly at a calibrated professional lab. I want to ensure all your prints, canvas, and albums are printed on the best quality, archival materials. I want to be sure you actually have top quality ART for your home.
A huge percentage of people who purchase files from their photographers, have the best intentions of getting them printed, but life gets busy and we lose track of time. Those files end up sitting and waiting for us to have some free time to get to them. I want my clients to walk away from their experience with me, with some beautiful art to show for it. After all, shooting the session is only half of the experience.
I wrote a blog post a couple of years ago about the digital file trend called “Choose Art”. Please take a moment to read it, to fully understand why I am not a “shoot and burn” photographer. Link below.
